Some Positive Roster Indications

I thought the Whale might be losing players early this week, but as it turned out they gained Christian Thomas back Monday.

There seemed to be dire news coming out of Montreal on Saturday, as, in addition to the parent club losing 3-0 to the Canadiens, word came that both Ryan McDonagh and Dan Girardi had left the game due to injuries.

The update Monday out of Gotham, though, was that Girardi was not expected to miss any time, with neither a foot nor a hand problem proving to be major issues, and Michael Del Zotto, who missed the Montreal game after getting banged up Thursday in Ottawa, was also back practicing.

In addition, Darroll Powe, who had missed three games with a concussion, practiced and was pronounced “good to go” by Ranger head man John Tortorella.

New York needed a roster spot for Powe, who had been on Injured Reserve, and that prompted the reassignment of Thomas, who one would think would be energized by the impression he made in his first career NHL game Saturday, not that he wasn’t playing with real good energy before the surprise callup.

If Powe can play, that at least gives the Rangers 12 healthy forwards available for Tuesday night’s home game against Winnipeg, even if Aaron Asham remains out.  And assuming Girardi is OK, the big club probably shouldn’t have to call up a defenseman.  They would have seven available, counting Del Zotto and Stu Bickel, six even if Del Zotto can’t go.

On the Whale side, the roster was down to 16 healthy bodies Sunday in Syracuse, but Benn Ferriero took the full practice Tuesday and sounds as if he is close to returning, and while Blake Parlett did not skate Tuesday, indications seem to be that he is no worse than day-to-day.

bob i was at the game tonight and to me it looked misleading in multiple ways. for example the first period whale out score b port 5-0. that would suggest a dominating period. but the shots were 12-13 in favor of b port and honestly the over all play looked even. after 2 period the whale have a 5-1 lead. now i would think you look at a score bored after 40 if it says 5-1 you can normally say the team on top was dominating most if not all the game so far. but in that period even though it was mostly even 2 me it looked like b port out played the whale a tiny bit. and as far as the 3rd period goes. ya the whale scored 2 late. but through a little more then have that period they struggled to get more then 2 shots on goal plus a lot of that period was in there own zone. don’t get me wrong im thrilled about a 7-3 score and maybe most if not everyone else would call me crazy for saying this. but in my hockey mind things looked misleading.
